DEEP Environmental Conservation Police Investigating Untimely Death at Algonquin State Forest

(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) are investigating an untimely death at Secret Lake in Algonquin State Forest in the town of Winsted.

On September 16, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., EnCon Police responded to a Litchfield County Dispatch report of a person in the water at Secret Lake. Winchester Police, Winchester Fire Department and EMS personnel assisted on scene.

The individual was recovered by the Winchester Fire Department at approximately 8:00 p.m. and pronounced deceased by a paramedic on scene. The deceased is identified as Brandon Pack, 31, of Bloomfield.

EnCon Police are investigating and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

DEEP extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Pack's family and friends.
